Let's face it, not all of us can afford a large leatherbound tome like the one featured on Charmed.
Thankfully, though, there are a couple of different options when it
comes to making your own Book of Shadows. For example, you can purchase a
notebook or sketchbook, or a blank journal that
"speaks" to you. Once you've done that, you can decorate the cover
and/or first page with magickal symbols, if you so desire, then fill it with information.
Another
option is using a three-ring binder, which allows for information to be
added, moved, and removed with ease. Add in some tabbed dividers and/or
sheet protectors, and you have the perfect thing for organized
practitioners such as myself. For binders with clear front pockets, you
can personalize it by creating a cover sheet that reads "(Your name or
your Craft name)'s Book of Shadows". Or, you can cover a plain binder
with fabric, either by sewing flaps for the binder edges to fit into or
by gluing it to the binder itself. For more information on decorating a
binder Book of Shadows, please visit The Wiccan Garden.
Yet
another way to go is using a blank, rewritable disc or a USB drive to
create a Disk of Shadows. This is another option that's perfect for
super-organized witches, as information can be easily categorized into
folders. Plus, you can carry your grimoire with you wherever you go!
And, as a bonus, you can create and decorate a cover for the case of
your rewritable disc.
